Meadows become matted and overgrown due to lack of or unsuitable management as well as input of nitrogen. The frog orchid is a weak competitor and is quickly displaced. In Luxembourg, it used to be found in short-grassed meadows, dry grasslands and sparse forests. It is now only found at one site in the southwestern part of the country.
